Ragged Red Squares

Inspired by Crazy Mom Quilts. I found the inspiration for this quilt on Amanda's blog one evening and woke up the next morning thinking about creating one for myself. It was lots of fun and I would make another.
I have never made a quilt like this before, raw edges exposed.....

I didn't worry about placement of any of the squares on the back ~ didn't even look until it was all sewn together *randomness* and I like it.

I named this quilt Happy Valentine's Day, but ran out of time on Valentine's Day to post about it.

I machine pieced and hand quilted all my blocks before I sewed them together.

Then placed them on my temporary design wall.

Sewed binding strips to cover all the seams on the back.

Good thing I love hand sewing ; )

I was so afraid when I washed and dried, it would all fall apart, it stayed together fine.

Obsession...

an idea, wish, etc. that fills one's thoughts and cannot be put out of the mind. I embroidered my signature tag for this quilt named "Obsession", and made a little ruffle for the edge out of the selvedge. K picked the name for me when on Sunday I was making some buttermilk waffles and used 4 cups instead of 4 tablespoons of sugar in the recipe (uh.... it was a new recipe and we wouldn't need any syrup on them ; )). Needless to say he told me "I think you're obsessed with that quilt you are making" I guess maybe I was, thus the name. This is the first quilt I have ever machine stippled. Three advils (it gave me a bit of a tension headache) and two days later finished! The only time in my sewing life I have actually wanted to run out of bobbin (so I could take a break). But I love the end result and would definitely do it again. Also gardening gloves help alot, they make it much easier to grip the fabric.
That's "The Little Red Hen" at the bottom of the tag!

Closeup of fabrics.

I used a nice soft flannel for the back that I had on hand, and I can't believe how well it coordinated with the Charisma fabric. I didn't have quite enough so I added a neat stripe fabric that didn't photograph very well.

"Obsession" Machine pieced and quilted, measures 65" x 87" before washing after it measures 62"x 82". Two weeks start to finish, completed in February 2009. I have never completed a twin size quilt this fast and I didn't work on it everyday. I love the way it turned out and it feels warm and cozy.

What I'm working on.....

I love jelly rolls and this one is Charisma *Chez Moi*
I made a temporary design wall by using a curtain rod and rings. I did have to pin, I used flannel for my wall but my fabric blocks didn't stick very well. Now for rearranging some blocks, adding borders and quilting. I am going to try machine stippling this quilt. My first time ever doing that sooooooooo I'll keep my fingers crossed. Also I was so thrifty with this jelly roll ~~~ just a couple little scraps left over!!!
And block #2 Bunny Hill Designs ~ almost finished.

Wool Garden #3

Block #3 finished, I am loving these blocks, easy, beautiful wool and no stress to try and finish before the next block arrives! The wool is perfect especially for the sunflower seeds! Thanks again Karen http://yellowfarmhouse.typepad.com/yellow_farmhouse/ My first try at inserting a link, I hope it works, something doesn't look right......

Walking my pups this morning, it was so pretty with the snow gently falling. Actually much prettier in real life. I wish I took better pictures!
